E-commerce is an English term referring to electronic commerce. This term includes purchase and sale of services and goods via the Internet. This term is most frequently identified with online shops.

Dynamic development of e-commerce is based on many factors. Most of them have their source in the development of technology, but we do not overlook such economic and social factors as:

  • the development of range and bandwidth within the Web
  • the increase in the number of users of the Web
  • different methods of payment
  • the development of ready software
  • low barriers of input
  • increase in the trust of the types of services we offer
  • easiness and speed of orders contracted
  • low costs of enterprises for owners

E-commerce is not only a purely programming approach. It is not enough to install and open a shop under a prepared WWW address. To make sure, that a given e-commerce programme functions effectively, it is necessary to determine among other things, the area of the activity of an online shop, the way of delivery, forms of payment for goods, the rules of purchase and the way of presentation of goods “on shelves”, and their promotion.
